Meet Mrs. Tweit!

My name is Angie Tweit and I graduated from Lewis Clark State College in 1993 with a degree in Elementary Education plus a Reading Endorsement.  Since that time I have taught kindergarten, first, and second grades...kindergarten being my favorite!   I believe in creating a classroom that is engaging and supportive of young children's development.  It is my ultimate goal that your child leaves kindergarten with a passion for learning and a love for our school!

Kindergarten: Mrs. Tweit's Busy Bees!

At JES we use the D’Nealian font for teaching handwriting (see the back side of this note).  Throughout the month of October we will practice writing our first names properly. You can help at home by checking your child’s daily papers to see how your child is doing on name writing.

Halloween Party

We will celebrate Halloween on Wednesday, October 31 at 2:00 pm.  Students are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to school on this day.  We ask that your child does NOT wear face paint and NO WEAPONS. I will need one parent to volunteer to be the party coordinator.  The party coordinator plans the party and reaches out to other parents to delegate responsibilities. We will need a snack, games, and possibly a craft. If you would like to be the Halloween Party Coordinator please contact me ASAP.

Heart Words

This year we will learn to read, write, and spell 88 sight words.  We call these words “heart words” because we memorize them by heart.  Heart words (sight words) are the most frequently read words. Many of them cannot be sounded out.

PTO Fundraiser

The JES PTO is having a coffee & doughnuts fundraiser the first week of October.  Order forms will be sent home Monday, October 1 and need to be returned to school by Friday, October 5.  The PTO sponsors many events here at our school such as Missoula Children’s Theatre, end of year fun day, and funds various classroom projects.

Each week I will select a student to be the classroom V.I.P. (Very Important Person).  The V.I.P. will be the line leader, flag salute leader, and have various other special duties. When your child is selected I will send home a piece of tag board paper for you and your child to create a poster all about his/her interests, hobbies, and family. The poster will be returned at the end of the week.

Pet Month

October is pet month in the kindergarten room!  I am encouraging students to bring their pets for show and tell.  Show and tell begins at 2:20 pm. If you are interested in bringing your child’s pet to school please contact me the night before so I can be prepared.

Field trip to Taylor-Dennler Farm in Juliaetta

Sometime next week (weather permitting) we will be visiting a gourd/pumpkin patch.  We are tentatively planning for Wednesday afternoon. If you would like to join us please let me know!

Youth Gardening Program at JES

We are excited to announce a new program being added at our school...the JES Garden Club

Did you know students are happier and learn better when they spend time outdoors?   "Laurie Harmon, an assistant professor in the department of parks, recreation, and leisure studies at George Mason University, showed data that says children’s and teens’ lives are too structured, and getting outdoors helps them unwind, de-stress, and regain focus. One study showed that students ages 6 to 12 cited “too much schoolwork” and “not enough time” as main factors for not going outside."

This fall each classroom will plant a variety of hardy plants and bulbs in barrels. In the spring each class will be planting in raised beds.  Our ultimate goal is to raise enough produce to be served in our cafeteria.

We want to thank the Hill and Valley Garden Club and Colter's Creek for there generous donations and support.

Happy planting!
