Kim Cirka

Dear Parents,

My name is Kim Cirka, and I have been teaching since 1985.  I graduated from the University of Idaho and taught special education for 13 years.  I also have certification in early childhood special education and general elementary education.  I have taught in grades 1-4, and have been in my current position as fourth grade teacher for ten years.  My favorite subjects to teach are math, reading, and Idaho history.  However, this summer I took a science class for teachers called, Teaching for Excellence in Science and Literacy Achievement (TESLA), and I am excited to see how I can incorporate writing into my science lessons.

We have started a unit in science called, measurement.  The students have started learning about linear measurement and we will also study the concepts of mass (weight) and volume.  The Big Idea for this unit is: A standard unit of measure is necessary for consistency in communication between people.  The standard system of measurement used in science is the metric system.  We should be finished with this unit by end of the first quarter and I will share with you at conference time how your child is doing.

First quarter conferences will be held in November on the 6th and the 7th.  I will send a letter about a week beforehand to schedule our conference time.  Please call the school or email me if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to volunteer or visit.  I am enjoying working with your children, and I look forward to meeting all of you at conference time or sooner.
